#Socializing is easier said than done. But hope is not lost! With SocialScene, you can connect with people and nurture friendships that share a common interest. Never feel left out of the #SocialScene! 👩👧👦👨
Most social media platforms have become ad-centric, leaving little space for authentic connection and communication. With the pressure of constantly uploading Instagram-worthy images, true connection takes a backseat. With SocialScene, we aim to connect individuals without the hassle of constant social media updates. Our team believes that socializing with people should not be as complicated and tedious as it is today and our product aims to simplify social scenes as effectively as possible.
Our project is a webapp developed for connecting with different interests based on interest-matching algorithm.
Our webapp is python-based. We divided tasks among 4 team members and were led by Navid, who helped us navigate through different challenges encountered during creating the webapp. Two of our team members, Nicole and Zainab worked on the front-end. Mumtaz contributed towards the backend, while Navid extensively debugged and improved the backend code. We used Flask for front-end web development and MySQL as our database for storing user information.
The learning curve was steep since 3 of us were beginners and it was our first hackathon. Our biggest challenge was integrating the front-end and back-end, which proved to be tedious enough that we did not have time to finish.
We're proud of working together as a team, completing our first hackathon, and having an almost functional prototype by the end of the hackathon.
We learned how important it is to have project planning skills and systematic delegation of tasks. Apart from that, we learned Flask, MySQL querying with Python, and frontend-backend integration.
We would like to build a more dynamic algorithm along with enabling better chat functionality as well as properly integrate the backend database.
