Description as a Tweet:

Combine the old school idea of Multi-User Dungeons with new age creativity. Create and browse art created by yourself and others around the world.

Inspiration:

An interest in MUDs as well as an undying passion for MS Paint!

What it does:

The website presents users with a large museum composed of empty or filled rooms. Clicking on an empty room presents users with a canvas, where they may pick from a palette of colors and create a piece of art. This art is then stored in an SQL server, and is retrieved when users click on a populated room in the museum.

How we built it:

We utilized a front end built through React, ExpressJS as middleware, and a SQL server to host our data.

Technologies we used:

  • Javascript
  • Node.js
  • Express
  • React
  • SQL

Challenges we ran into:

A majority of our team was completely unfamiliar with the web dev workflow, so grasping technologies such as React and ExpressJS and all their associated lingo presented some interesting challenges.

Accomplishments we're proud of:

Applying practical knowledge learned in class, such as interfacing with SQL tables as well as JavaScript experience, to a practical, real-world product.

What we've learned:

We learned how to combine multiple technologies through APIs, joining together a front end and back end through React and Express

What's next:

The next stage would involve hosting this project on a VPS off localhost, so that other users could access and make art.

Built with:

We used React, ExpressJS, and SQL

Prizes we're going for:

  • Best Web Hack
  • Best Beginner Software Hack
